I really, really like a good pint of beer (no kidding). At Grape & Grain we've made intermediate thru advanced beer supplies our specialty. If you like beer, then come see us. We simply have more stuff to offer the beer brewer. From kits to hops to grains, we have all you need!
All Grain "Bag-in-box" kits
The Brew House
This is simply the best kit on the market today (that we
don't make). It boasts being an all grain kit, which means it is made from grain
in a microbrewery-like setting using the freshest ingredients possible.
Presented like a wine kit, they are easy to use and are the best bet for the
novice looking for an easy way to start. I've toured their facility where these
kits are brewed and packaged and it is a very impressive operation. Their
brew kettles are larger than some I've seen in decent sized microbreweries.
It is essentially commercial beer that is packaged for home-brewing.
Currently they boast having 12 different styles of beer.
Each kit is a great representation of that style. They are as follows:

Check out the BrewHouse website for full descriptions. They also have a good resource centre if you want to learn more about their product.
News Flash! - Brew House Oktoberfest on it's way!
Oktoberfest is steeped in tradition and is typically an opportunity for the
brewer to showcase the best of his craft. Historically brewed in spring and
stored in cool caves over summer, the beer would reach its peak of flavour
just in time for the fall festival. The Oktoberfest style has survived and
continues to flourish today.
Oktoberfest is so complex and balanced that the overall character can only be
achieved through the use of the highest quality ingredients. We use the finest
Munich and Crystal malts and counter this with the best noble aromatic hops
(for both aroma and bitterness). Balance and complexity are the ultimate goal
of Oktoberfest brewing, and we are confident that you will find just that
in our kit.

Scotty's Beer kits
This is our own house brand. We put them together and you cook 'em up! Many types to choose from, these kits are the first step to opening up a opening up a world of better beer brewing! They take 1-2 hours to boil and prepare for fementing, but it is a labour of love to do so. We have 9 styles to choose from: (Note: Some styles may be out of stock if supplies of certain hops and grains are low.)
Glacier Golden Lager - Tastes like the draft version of that popular glacier beer! Smooth and easy drinking anytime!
Laughing Lizard Lager - Kind of like that Canadian moose beer, but maltier and hoppier.
Screamin' Cream Ale - A dead ringer for Canada's most famous cream ale. A good hybrid style where we use ale/dual use hops to create a truly unique lager style. Has a bit more hops to give it a great clean finish.
Red Baron German Pilsner - I call it a German Pilsner, but it's more like a Dortmunder export. A richer and slightly sweeter version of a traditional pilsner. Very rich in German noble hops. Aaaaahhhh hops!
Anchor's Away Steam Beer - Based on a historical style from San Francisco, this beer is rich on malt character and has a generous dose of Cascade hops for flavour and aroma. Very unique, but then that's why we brew our own beer isn't it?
Rat's Tail Pale Ale - Our first kit in this product line, and still one of my favourites. This beer pushes the colour scale of pale ales to a rich reddish amber. Lots of rich caramel malt flavours are complimented with a generous dose of hops in the finish. And there are no rat's tail here. Sorry to disappoint you.
Rudolph's Nose Red Ale - This is a classic English pub draft. A very good session beer you'll want to keep coming back to. Deep red amber in colour it has lots of flavour but isn't too filling.
Decadent Brown Ale - This is one of my favourites, a rich dark flavourful beer, possessing lots of roasted chocolate malt over tones and hopped with traditional English ale hops.
Buzz a Buzz Honey Brown Ale - This is the newest addition to our
Scotty's kits, its a richly coloured, full bodied ale with a creamy head, and a
great bouquet of sweet malt and honey.
Beer Kits we carry
We also carry many of the canned beer kits which made our industry so popular. They are an economical and easy way to get started in the hobby of home-brewing. They can be made straight up with dextrose (or malt extract, our recommendation), or you can play around with them by adding hops, grains and liquid yeasts. We carry 15 - 20 selections at any given time. We sell a variety of brands and we cycle through them regularly to keep our selection fresh and interesting. Ask us if you don't see your favourite and we'll do our best to source it.

Hops, Malts, Grains, and Yeasts.
Bwa-ha-ha-haaaaa.......our area of expertise! We sell around 20 different types of hops (pellets and plugs), liquid and dry malts, 30 types of grain and of course yeast (liquid and dry). Add to that list all the weird stuff, from lactose and flaked maize to oat hulls. You are in for a sparging great time! Our inventory fluctuates due to supply, demand, and availability. Below is a general idea of what we have available. Don't hesitate to call us up and ask. I'll sometimes have stuff in stock not listed here.
Hops:
We carry pellets, which are the industry standard, as well as plugs (whole leaf pellets sometimes called hop-bungs), and even a couple of varieties of fresh leaf. Pellets are usually sold in 60 gram bags, plugs in 140 gram bags (10 individual 1/2 oz plugs) and whole leaf hops are 100 grams vacuum sealed bags. Due to the volatile nature of the industry our levels of supplies will fluctuate. Here's a general list of stock we have:
Pellets: Amarillo, Cascade, Centennial, Colombus, Glacier, Goldings, Halertau, Hersbrucker, Liberty, Magnum, Mount Hood, Mount Ranier, Northern Brewer, Palisade, Saaz, Tettnang, Vanguard, and Willamette.
Plugs: Goldings, Northern Brewer and Saaz.
A note about our hop supply - There has been much turmoil in the hop industry in the past few years. Hop shortages have dramatically altered the variety of hops available and the cost of them as well. In the past couple of years we have paid up to 800% more than normal for some strains of hops. There is good news though as hop prices have been coming down, most notably in this past year. Our current supply of Cascade is down from $7.50 to $4.50 for a 60 gram bag. We will continue to strive to delivery the quality you want at the best prices we can. Thank you for your patience and understanding these last few years with hops.
Malts:
By malts I usually refer to prepared Malt extract. We carry dry malt extract (often referred to as DME) in 500 gram bags of light, medium and dark. Liquid malt extract (LME) is less expensive, but we only have it in light. This is what we use as a base for our "Scotty's Kits", so we have large 3.2 kg (about 7 lb) tubs which make a great base for any beer you may want to create. We also have the LME in a 1.2 kg tub (2.6 pounds) to use when making canned beer kits, instead of using dextrose corn sugar.
Grains:
We have 25-30 grains (including flakes) in stock at any one time. We have a grain mill in store to grind them into a grist for you too. Grains are sold off a scale, so you can order 25 grams or 25 kilograms. We have bulk prices for 5 kg or more, as well as a non-milled 25 kg bag price. Here is an idea of what we usually carry:
Base malts: Domestic 2-row malt (Malteurop, from right here in Winnipeg, and Gambrinus from B.C.). Maris Otter malt (UK), German Pilsner malt (Weyermann), Golden Promise (Fawcett) and wheat malt (O-I-O Brand).
Specialty Malts: Aromatic malt, Biscuit Malt (aka: Melanoiden malt from Weyermann), Caramunich malt (Weyermann), Caramunich (Weyermanns), Carapils (Carafoam by Weyermann, sometimes called dextrin malt), CaraVienna (aka: Cara-Amber from Weyermann), Crystal malt (Muntons UK, in 45, 77, and 120 lovibond), Crystal malt light (10 lovibond, aka: Cara-Red from Weyermann), Honey malt (Gambrinus, Canada), Light Munich Malt (Weyermann), Dark Munich malt (Weyermann), Toasted malt (O-I-O brand) and Vienna malt (Weyermann).
Roasted Malts: Black Patent malt (UK, Muntons), Carafa Malt, Chocolate malt (UK, Muntons), Roasted barley (UK , Bairds)
Adjuncts: Flaked barley, flaked maize, flaked oats, flaked rice, flaked wheat, and rye malt.
New Malts now In
We now have some new Specialty malts to offer you:
Chocolate Rye Malt - Adds an intensified aroma of dark top-fermented beers as well as improved color. Use in Dunkel-Weizen, Alt, Stout, Porter. Use up to 5%. Avg. Lovibond: 245 Country of origin: Germany (Weyermann).
Caramel Rye Malt - Rye malt that has been treated like any other caramel grain. Residual sweetness, spicy/bready character and some have said "peppery." Becoming increasingly popular due to clone recipes of He'brew Jewbilation 12 and other popular Schmaltz recipes. Avg Lovibond: 49. Country of origin: Germany (Weyermann).
Regular Rye Malt - Back in stock! Adds that "rye spiciness" and is an essential ingredient in Rye Beers. Can be used up to 50%, but you may want to throw in some rice hulls or 6-row to prevent a stuck mash on quantities over 20%. Avg. Lovibond: 3.5. Country of origin: Germany (Weyermann).

Yeast: What beer would be complete with out yeast. Often the most overlooked ingredient by the beginner, experienced brewers know that a great yeast makes great beer. We have a few good dry yeasts to choose from, but what will really make your beer special is Wyeast Liquid yeast
cultures. There are dozens of different strains available, and each one will leave it's own impression on the beer you make.
I bring in liquid brewing yeast direct from Wyeast labs every 3-6 weeks, as supply demands. I try to keep a good selection of the popular strains on hand though. If you anticipate needing one specific strain, call ahead and I'll set it aside for you (or put it on the order list and let you know when we can get it).
Serious brewers who want the best in their beer rely on this product to give their beer true to style character. It is most often used when brewers are making beer from scratch, but anyone can use it for any beer. I've found that it can completely change a "kit" beer to another style altogether.
